A building for a scientific community on a plot right on the seafront in which the space not suitable for occupation is exploited to form the interior courtyards. In terms of landscaping, the building acts like a subsidiary pedestal for the metropolitan landmark of the Gehry fish sculpture alongside it. The vertical communications cores are sited in the four corners. The desire to make the sea visible from the ground floor of the building explains the reflective surface and the oblique form of the interior façades of the courtyards, while the structural order adheres to a regular rectangular schema. A metal sun screen envelops the whole complex and ensures both its transparency and its environmental quality.
